Bullet Astrometric Monitoring - Nearby Stars
- Barnards Star, 61 Cyg
- Late Evening session (2.5 hrs), Good Seeing, dew forming
- Session operated under semi-automated control, with remote monitoring from indoors computer.
- Ambient Temperature: dropping initially to 9.0 deg C then fallinmg again to 7.0 deg C (minimum)
- CCD operation -25 degC (at 87% average cooling).
- main objectives of the session was to acquire images of selected project stars for ongoing photometric analysis , following 6 month observing break due mainly to poor weather.
- opportunity taken to acquire images of a newly discovered supernovae in nearby galaxy M101 and of comet C/2009 P1 (Garradd)

M101 - spiral galaxy with supernova 2011fe

M101 with supernova 2011fe  (Ursa Major)
SN 2011fe (= PTF11kly) (Type Ia) was discovered 2011/08/24.00 by Palomar Transient Factory
Magnitude at discovery +17.2
(Rochester Supernova site | Discovery Image )

SN 2011fe is reported as being the nearest Type 1a supernova seen in decades.
It has brightened significantly since discovery and by 2011-08-27 had reached mag +12.3

Image below (2011-08-25.91) was taken only ~ 1.9 days after SN discovery.
(Possible query on precise time of discovery ?)
Est Mag +13.4
SN 2011fe is marked by the white cross hair.
