MeadeGeneric 1.3.5.414

A new version of the MeadeGeneric driver (1.3.5.414) was installed on the observatory computer today (2022-05-30).

This new version contains several changes since the previously installed development version (MeadeGeneric 1.3.3.375, installed 2021-12-19). Only one new feature (the removal of New PulseGuide limit of 10000 in order to make longer pulse guides possible) is directly relevant to me, but it is appropriate to ensure that none of the other changes have an adverse/retrograde effect for my telescope/observatory system and align my setup with the current released version.

1.3.5.414 Release Notes, 17-May-2022
- Modified the SideOfPier code so that it reports properly. Confirmed with an LX75

1.3.4.410 Release Notes, 15-May-2022
- Support for parking the LX200 Classic
- Support for Unparking the LX200 Classic
- Support for running the supported autostars at serial speeds other than 9600 bps.
- Added support for the Focal Length, Aperture Area, and Diameter properties in setup.
- Added support for returning IsGuiding value whilst pulse guiding in progress.
- Modified the implementation of side of pier support detection.
- Added extra checking to ensure that a slew cannot be started whilst a slew is in progress.
- Overridden the alignment status ToString to help with logging
- Added logging to MovingAxis call to see if a telescope axis is moving
- Upgraded the tracking rate detection, now detects solar, lunar and sidereal better than before.
- Added check to ensure that telescope is in Polar Mode when attempting to PulseGuide.
- CanPulseGuide returns false when scope is in AltAz mode.
- New PulseGuide limit of 10000 has been removed, longer pulse guides will continue to use the new guiding method when available.

Problem installing
There were initial problems with installing the driver.
- After running 'Meade.net.Setup.1.3.5.414.msi' file and clicking install, the dialog window 'ASCOM Meade Generic Setup'  appeared but then hang and not do anything.
- Eventually had to use the Cancel button,  but the window would still not close.
- Eventually had to kill the Windows Installer App using TaskManager in order for the window to close.
- Restarted computer, but couldn't make VNC connection after 5 minutes.
- Visit to observatory showed that windows had stalled whilst restarting (this happened that last time that computer was restarted ?)
- Computer was powerered off/on which successfully rebooted the computer.
- Reran .msi file / ASCOM Meade Generic Setup, this time the driver installed ok
(through the Windows Security check,  to see that I really wanted to install file,  didn't appear instantanously but seemed delayed by some 10s or so)

Actions
Image Review AstroMain
Image AstroMain
Review AstroMain code regarding it's handling of longer pulse guides (current AstroMain 3.51.10 code confirmed to use direct 'Mg' commands to LX200 for pulse guides in range 10000 to 30000 ms) and make changes in 3.51.11 in order to switch over to using AscomTelescope.PulseGuide for pulse guides in excess of 9999ms.
Image Long PulseGuides. Test Longer Duration Pulse Guide (>9999ms) using new MeadeGeneric driver (1.3.5). Test to be made using Guide North button facility on   (GuideNorthForSetAmount) with a distance of 300 arc sec (5 arc min) which will correspond to a pulse guide duration of 22161 ms  (from 300/13.537 (at x0.90 guide rate) * 1000)

Results
Daytime tests successfully carried out after installation of the new driver which checked that
- LX200GPS/R telescope could be connected to 22
- Day/Time prompts would be passed ok
- Scope would move to appropriate coordinates when commanded via TheSky6
- Scope would park ok.

MeadeGeneric 1.3.5.414 was successfully used for S1013 live session (2022-05-30,  S01013). No problems or issues arose.

Long Pulse Guide Test
A 5.0 arc min north pulse guide was made at the start of session S1013. This commanded a 22162ms pulse guide via MeadeGeneric's PulseGuide method.  This should be more than enough to check that MeadeGeneric former PulseGuide limit of 9999ms has been removed.

According to telescope coordinates before and after the scope moved by a distance of  RA: -0.29 arc mins,  Dec: +4.86 arc mins.   The Dec amount is presumed to be less than +6.0 arc mins due to backlash in the Dec gears.  (Scope should have been moved north ahead of the initial baseline).  PlateSolution of the Baseline Image and a follow-up Snap image (after the Check Images failed to link) indicates scope had moved from Dec +15 25 01.62 to Dec +15 29 49.83.

This indicates a Dec Change of +4.80 arc min (the minimal Pulse Guide to produce this amount of movement would be 21275ms (from 4.80 * 60 / 13.537 (at x0.90 guide rate) * 1000 ), which indicates that the 10000ms limit in the former 1.3.3 version of MeadeGeneric has been removed.  Logs show that the PulseGuideByThread() routine took 22700ms to return (suggesting that a full 22162ms pulse guide was made).

SideOfPier Observations:
SideOfPier is not relevant for the observatory's fork mounted LX200GPS, and from a previous issue in 2021 it established that an exception needs to be produced and passed through DeviceHUb, it order for PHD2 to not have problems when guiding on different sides of the Meridian.

Whilst MeadeGeneric log file in 1.3.3 one message line is produced for each Get SideOfPier request :
    01:06:17.765 SideOfPier Get Not implemented

in 1.3.5 two messages are produced for each Get SideOfPier request :
   01:03:12.973 SideOfPier Get Not implemented
01:03:12.973 SideOfPier Get Error: Property read SideOfPier is not implemented in this driver.

This doesn't seem to be a fundamental behaviour change, but is likely to simply show a more detailed representation of the returned exception.
