Objects Session Notes
Delta Cepheid - Variable Star RR Lyrae - Variable Star Mars
- 3 hour session, very dark skies, surprise 5 minute rain shower part way through session. - Ambient temperature 13 degC - Aims of session were to record additional magnitude information on Delta Cepheid & baseline image sets for BL Lac. - Opportunity was taken to acquire an 1 hour long image sequence on RR Lyrae. - Focal Reducer was removed towards end of session and Mars was imaged through Barlow Lens/ ST7 camera. Seeing was poor - More Notes
As part of an ongoing project examining the variability in Delta Cepheid, further image sets of the variable star & the reference star SAO 34542 were recorded at around 19:46h UT and 21:42h UT (2005-10-30). Image sets comprised 7 sequences of 3 x 0.2s V & 3 x 0.6s B (alternated between Delta Cepheid & reference star). These were analyzed using the methodology described under 2005-10-05 Notes, and combined with previous estimates

Magnitude and colour variation in Delta
Cepheid based on observations on 7 observing sessions between 2005-10-02 and 2005-10-30. |
Further observations will be made during
future sessions in order to further refine the light curve |

An alternating sequence of V Filter (10s exposure) and B Filter (20s exposure) images were recorded over a 1.1 hour interval. Image capture was via automated scripts, An unexpected rain shower occurred part way through the period, causing loss of data from cloud cover and lightly coating the telescope.
The dataset records fairly constant brightness of RR
Lyrae over the 1.1 hour interval. The brightness was dimmer than expected based
on previous sessions, raising the possibility that either the star's cycle
differs from the 'standard' period length (0.56686776 days), the star has a
longer length variability or that my magnitude estimates are in error.
