Session Aims & Highlights (2022-05-30)

Main aims

  1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by time & conditions.
  2. MeadeGeneric.  Check out newly installed 1.3.5.414 version of MeadeGeneric telescope driver. Check that it hasn't introduced any issues and that that removal of 10000ms limit for new Pulse Guides is working ok.

Highlights

Notes:

Long Pulse Guide Test
A 5.0 arc min north pulse guide was made at the start of session S1013. This commanded a 22162ms pulse guide via MeadeGeneric's PulseGuide method (at x0.90 guide rate).  This should be more than enough to check that MeadeGeneric former PulseGuide limit of 9999ms has been removed.

According to telescope coordinates before and after the scope moved by a distance of  RA: -0.29 arc mins,  Dec: +4.86 arc mins.   The Dec amount is presumed to be less than +6.0 arc mins due to backlash in the Dec gears.  (Scope should have been moved north ahead of the initial baseline).  PlateSolution of the Baseline Image and a follow-up Snap image (after the Check Images failed to link) indicates scope had moved from Dec +15 25 01.62 to Dec +15 29 49.83.

This indicates a Dec Change of +4.80 arc min.  The minimal Pulse Guide to produce this amount of movement would be 21275ms (from 4.80 * 60 / 13.537 (at x0.90 guide rate) * 1000), which indicates that the 10000ms limit in the former 1.3.3 version of MeadeGeneric has been definately been removed.  Logs show that the PulseGuideByThread() routine took 22700ms to return (suggesting that a full 22162ms pulse guide was made).
