Session Aims & Highlights (2022-12-11)

Main aims

1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by sky conditions.
2. 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann. Acquire further images of 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann, as followup to images taken in previous sessions (S1061 - S1067) . Continue to look out for expanding coma following 4 mag outburst on Nov 22nd 2022.
3. AstroMain.  Check new AstroMain version (3.59.3) for any issues introduced by several recent changes, bug fixes and additions.

Highlights

• Targets. 44 out of 47 planned targets were completed. 1 target (NGC 1300) failed due to cloud. Two other targets partially completed.
• 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann.  Images acquired.
• AstroMain. No significant issues with AstroMain 3.59.3
• Dome Slews. A few significant hold-ups encountered but affected only 11% of slews (5/47 slew affected, 11%, 5.9 minutes total hold-up time).

Notes:

• Cold conditions, reaching minimum of -6°C.  Obs Temperature failed at -5°C.

• 'Last Session' field on AstroMain Analysis/Image Sets tabs shows'S938' for 'M31' (w/AT 2022zzj) instead of S1059 or S1060.  This is an issue for M31 Transients whose pictures are stored in 'M31 Nova' Store folder.  The GetLastSession() routine should make a custom search for M31 in which it search for pictures file with the prefix including the transient name (eg. "M31_AT2022zzj')
  Fixed 2022-12-12 (AstroMain 3.59.4).
   
• Observatory Temperature/Humidity sensor seem to go offline in cold conditions.  The Observatory Temperature/Humidity sensor located in the WMR80 base station went offline at 02:30 when tempertures fell to -5°C (conditions eventually reaching -7°C by dawn).  Data came back online at 10:10. Interestingly this was at about the point wher temperatures had risen above -5°C.  Data was monitor the  next cold night to see and again ObservatoryTemperature/Humidity go offline in the same manner. What seeems to happen is than when Base Station temperature falls to below -5.0°C, the Weather Station reports a Indoor (Base Station) Temperature of 0.0°C, and a Indoor (Base Station) Humidity values corresponding to the last good value. Separate continuous improvements tickets are raised to mitigate the impact of this.
  Issue understood 2022-12-12  (WeatherStation / AstroWeather). 
   
• GuidingChart and GuideSumm Data file contain inappropriate () terms.  These are surrounding brackets for time lapse frame numbers.   These target aren't using TimeLapse recording and shouldn't have these brackets shown.
  Fixed 2022-12-11 (AstroMain 3.59.4). 
   
• TheSky6 ended session with a dialog window entitled "ASCOM.DriverAccess" with message "Get RightAscension" and a Red/White Cross.  Presumably TheSky was attenpted to read RA from scope right at the moment TheSky telescope was disconnected ? The issue didn't seem to affect operations at all. The LX200 Scope made its final slew to 'Near Park' postion using TheSky.Telescope ok.  No anomalous message in log file.  TeleLink log shows last GetRightAscension at 07:03:01.068 with disconnection of TheSky.Telescope at 07:03:01.071. Closed after review 2022-12-12 (not enough information to establish a cause or conduct further diagnostics)

• Labelling of Spectra Graphs has taken a backward step (post-session analysis).  Spectral Graph Chart created for "Lyr_RR 2x2 45s S Set1" should have been labelled GCVS RR Lyr,  4x45s, 2x2, 2022-12-11 19:39 UT    Lyr_RR.20221211.im1068111-15.av4x45s.S.FIT,  but was labelled as Nova Cas 2021, 30S, 2x2, #920126 0006  2021-10-05 0Lyr_RR.20221211.im1068111-15.av4x45s.S.FIT" . Compare pictures with session S936 (2021-11-23) and compare  AstroMain code 3.59.4 with AstroMain 3.47.

• Observing Plan contains duplicate observations for same target. Plan contained duplicates for NGC 5631 w/SN2022aaiq (2 entries) and 81P/Wild (3 entries). Observing Plan is designed to be not have more than one observation scheduled for the same target. This is most probably a sideffect of a bug in ChooseTarget() routine which is fixed in AstroPlan 1.35.2.

• AutoStart unnecessarily waiting on Pulsar Data to change (00:54). Job was accidently abort at 00:53 when it was intended to just abort the current target (NGC 1300). AutoStart was initiated to resume the session and it was disappointly to find AutoStart had to wait a 3 or 4 minutes for Pulsar Data to change.  Last Pulsar Data change should be carried forward for just this eventuality. A new "Skip PulsWait" check box (cboxSkipWaitOnFreshShutterData) has been added to AstroMain 3.61.6 to allow the user to skip ObsManager's 'wait for fresh shutter data'.

• Name of Target 30 on the AzAltResult chart was overposted.  It seems that  "NGC 1300 w/SN2022acko (ToO)" was overposted (or underposted) by "NGC 5631 w/SN2022aaiq" which was both the preceeding and succeeding target.  May be confused because NGC 1300 w/SN2022acko was a ToO target which was aborted by user mid-target due to low transparency/failed centering (accidentally using JobAbort, rather than jobTargetAbort)
  To fix 2022-12-12  (AstroMain 3.59.4). 

• Reducing Process All should write the current raw set to objconsole status field like 'Processing Reduction Set 3/30'

• Build a google search field to submit a google search 'item site:astro-richweb.net'.  This can be activated by setting up a programmable google search at https://programmablesearchengine.google.com, and pasting code into website.   Prototype below, and subsequently built into the Session Images page.

• Observatory Temperature data is inappropriately averaged when Temperature/Humidity data went offline (02:30). When tempearture data suddenly jumped from -5°C to a flatlined value of 0°C, the temperature data is still average and plotted, until the point where data is deemed to have flatflined and is no longer drawn.  A second parse of data should be made to rule out these inappropriately averaged sections.

• Graph boxes should report an Observatory Temperature from the Ch2Temperature sensor when temperatures fall below -5°C. Below -5°C the Weather Station jumps to reporting a value of 0°C for the Indoor (Base Station) Temperature.

• Temperature Graphs should show Ch2 Temperature for the the Observatory Temperature when temperatures fall below -5°C. Below -5°C the Weather Station jumps to reporting a value of 0°C for the Indoor (Base Station) Temperature, and is currently identified as a flat-lined sensor and not plotted.  Observatort Dew Point should be recalculated using the Observatory Humidity (albeit flat lining) and the Ch2 Temperature.
