Major Issues

• Multiple CcdCamera Red Alerts occurred during the last 2 hours of the session (03:27 - 05:31). There were 65 red alerts  between 03:27 and 05:31 with message "CcdCamera appears to be frozen..." typically the freezes are reported to occur during section 'Waiting' but other sections are also involved. There were 125 automated attempts to fix the frozen CcdCamera / Camera Issue by calling RestartCCDSoft, however none of these attempts worked.  Examining reports shows that in each attempt a 'Repair Camera (Lite)' operation was used which turns off/turns on the USB connection to the SBIG Camera without performing a power reset of the SBIG Camera, which is much more reliable method of a fixing the issue. It takes longer and should be tried after the Lite fix hasn't worked.  The problem is similar to the issue that occurred in Session S1456 (2026-09-27,  see notes)  that was notionally fixed in AstroMain 3.83.14 on 2026-10-01) To be reinvestigated .
   To investigate & fix 2026-10-23 (AstroMain 3.84.18+)

• Damage to outside equipment caused by Storm Boelo (2026-10-25). A major storm (Storm Boelo) came through during the daytime of 2026-10-25 with wind speeds of 50 mph+ with gusts up to 70 mph.  There was quite a bit of damage to outside equipment, some was evident on the day, but other damage onl y became clear the following day when equipment was inspected. Damage comprises :
   - wooden post with attached Ecowitt Wittboy Weather Station, snapped and had blown down (see Fig 3).
 - one of the 3 cups on visual Wind Sensor had snapped, and its wind vane arrow had cracked (see Fig 4)
 - a wire/plug carrying 12V power to AllSky Camera's dew heater became detached (see Fig 5)
 - a 1.7m long length of wood attached to fence for blocking the light from KR Group bright Security Light
reaching the AllSky Camera had snapped (see Fig 6)
   Repairs are gradually being made
  - wooden post for Weather Station sensors was trimmed and re-screwed to its host fence post, but it is around 15cm shorter than it was (Fig 4b)
- the broken cup on Visual Wind Sensor has been expoxy glued, and will the wind sensor, will be reattached in due course
The fix probably won't last and a replacemeny Visual Wind Sensor is likely requiredat some point.
Primary wind speed and direction is obtained from the ultrasonic wind detector on the Ecowitt CW2001 Wittboy.
- The cable for the AllSky Dew Heater, was cleared from corrosion and reattached to the AllSky Camera.
- A new 1.7m length of wood needs to be acquired (the broken spar is beyond repair)
  To be fixed
Repairs done or are still in progress 2026-10-26+ (Observatory, Weather Station, AllSkyCamera)

Minor Issues

• AstroMain not accessing NorthCam Star Count. Following the failure of the AllSky/Weather Computer the Observatory has been operating in a Reduced Support Mode, where the AllSky Camera Images and AllSky Star Count is not available. To allow automated observing sessions to run without waiting for a replacement for the failed computer (not due to end October) the Cloud Sensor and AstroNorthCam /NorthCam have been setup to run on the Observatory Computer  A workaround solution was implemented to allow NorthCam Star Count to be accessed and used by AstroMain to help distinguish between clear sky and deteroriating sky conditions.   More recently Scorecard/Synopsis assessment has been moved from AstroAllSky to AstroWeather, and provides the revised longer term revised method for passing NorthCam Star Count to AstroMain. Due to an oversight the temporary workaround to access NorthCam Star Count from a small data file has been disabled or removed, without reenabling the former methd of using the NorthStar StarCount that is included in the Scorecard/Synopsis data record. Fixed in AstroMain 3.84.17 and used in second part of the S1468 session.
   Fixed in-session 2026-10-23 (AstroMain 3.84.17)

• AstroMain's Listener are producing multiple unwanted log lines containing Raw Received Records. During development and testing of revised Senders and revised Listeners code was included to log the raw records being sent and received across TCP/IP connections. Whilst useful during the development and testing these 'trace-like' messages clutter the observing session's log file, and need to be removed or surpressed.  Fixed in AstroMain 3.84.18. A separate continuous ticket is raised so the timely logging of importan changes in the Listening State and Sender State are recorded to the log file..

• Dome failed to move during final Search For Dome Park operation, causing the dome to not be correctly parked (06:47). During the Session's Finishing Stage the automated search for dome park position was made using Narrow Search, searching from Az 88 to Az 92. The operation was anomalous as all position reported 'At Park' based on values from the Zigbee Park Sensor (see Fig 2). The shutter battery didn't begin charging after 3 minutes, not during the next 8-10 hours, indicating that the shutter wasn't precisely parked. The following day a 'Search For Dome Park' operation was conducted using the regular Az 88 to Az 92 range and then using a wider Az 82 to Az 98 range. Again all positions showed 'At Park'  (= true) and it was wondered if there was an issue with the Zigbee DomePark ensor but it's battary shows 91%.  It was then noticed that the reported Dome Azimuth wasn't changing from 90 for any of the Dome Az steps (see Fig 2 showing the original 'Search For Dome Park' report). A later test to slew dome failed with message "slew failed".  Dome was restarted (involving a Power reset) and reconnected, but dome was reporting a failure whenever a slew was attempted. Analysis showed that at 05:55 the dome slewed ok from Az 113.6 to Az 85.3 for Target 40/41 (UGC 7012 w/AT2026afsg) . The dome proceeded to move from Az 85.3 to around Az 87-88 during the course of the target following the telescope, and then to Az 90.4 whilst suspended, before it was parked at 90.2 - 90.0.  Dome was fully disconnected from AstroMain/ASCOM (including shutting DeviceHub which appeared to be critical step) and then connected using Pulsar Dome Control program from where it was possible to move the scope to new Azimuth positions. After closing the Pulsar program the Dome was again connected in AstroMain and a new  'Search for Dome Park' operation conducted. This was successful and located the Dome Park at Az 90.7 where the Dome was Synced to Az 90.0.  Issue resolved but the reason for the loss of Dome control is unknown. An issue with a frozen DeviceHub/Dome Driver is suspected.
Resolved 2026-10-23 (AstroMain, Pulsar Dome, Device Hub, User Awareness)

• AstroWeather's Graphs routine are not drawing recent ObsEnv data.  AstroWeather Graphs are only drawing ObsEnv data that was previously Imported using the 'Import ObsEnv' button. Investigating exceptions in logfile revealed that the issue is that the ObsEnvFile is not opened when the ObsEnv Service is started, which causes exceptions when there are attempts to append new ObsEnv records to the ObsEnvFile (..\Data\AllSky Imaging\ObsEnv\ObsEnvData.dat)  Fixed in AstroWeather 1.33.19

• Weather Station Pole has been blown down during Storm Boelo (2026-10-25). The wooden pole with attached Weather Station sensors has been blown down during Storm Boelo at around 14:30 on 2026-10-25 by wind / gust with estimated wind speed of 70 mph. It had been leaning for a couple of hours before finally coming down  The Weather Station is currently not being used as the AllSky/Weather Computer is currently out of action and won't be replaced till end October so there is no immediate rush to repair the pole, but it will need to be done over the next few days. Post was repaired the following day, as conditions had calmed. The wooden post for Weather Station sensors was trimmed and re-screwed to its host fence post, but unfortunately it is now around 15cm shorter than it was.
   Fixed 2026-10-26 (Weather Station)

• Cable connector to AllSky Camera / Dew Heater has come loose during Storm Boelo (2026-10-25). A cable connector on the AllSky Camera mast appears to have come loose. Noticed on 2026-10-25, this likely happened during today's gale from Storm Boelo ( 2026-10-25) or sometime before. The cable is possibly the cable to the AllSky Dew Heater on the AllSky Camera, but this would be known until the storm abates and it can be checked. The AllSKy Camera is currently not being used as the AllSky/Weather Computer is currently out of action and won't be replaced till end October.  Lead doesn't seem to be associated with the CloudSensor sitting on the same mast as its sensor values are coming through ok.  The detached cable was examined the following day and it proved to be cable carrying 12V power to AllSky Camera's dew heater.  The cable plug was cleared from corrosion and reattached to the base of the AllSky Camera. (StarLighXpress Oculus).

Small Defects

• Scorecard Data flag is unexpectedly showing Red on AstroMain's Observatory Tab (01:50) Although Scorecard data is being communicated from AstroWeather to AstroMain, and is being displayed on the Manager tab and the Record Count is ticking over at expected 10s cadence, the Service's Data flag is showing Red (see Fig 1). The corresponding flags for the other listeners (CloudSensor and WeatherForecast) are showing Green ok.  The issue was identified to be due to a conditon line in UpdateSynopsisFields() which was dropping the flag update when StarCountData.Valid And StarCountData.NorthCamStars <> vcNull. This was a condition which was associated with the interim workaround for including NorthCamStars when standard Scorecard data was not available.  Fixed in AstroMain 3.84.18.
   Fixed 2026-10-23 (AstroMain 3.84.18)

• ObsEnv Connection flags on AstroMain's Observatory tab are not working. Three ObsEnv Connection flag were added to the Observatory Tab against the ObsEnv Service in AstroMain 3.84.17 and referenced to each of ObsEnv's Connection definitions using the connector's flagConnection.  These flags should change colour when ObsEnvSender is running and a connection changes state (e.g.for example from Initial (White) to  'Connecting' (Yellow) to 'Connected' (Green). However whilst running the new AstroMain version during second part of S1468 with the ObsEnv Service running, the flags staying white and didn't change colour (see Fig 1).  Investigating showed that ObsEnvSender was pointing to a temporary working class instead of the correct one ( TObsEnvSender). • Overflow Exception occured in GuideQualityChart.AddData (00:59). During Target 22/41 (Berkeley 11) an "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow" exception occured in GuideQualityChart.AddData()  whilst trying to add Guiding RMS to the Guide Quality Chart. It is probable that the exception occured because the routine was called either RMS=0, MinRMS=0 or MaxRMS =0  that resulted in an overflow exception when trying to calculate a Log value in the YToPixel() routine. Log files confirm that the AddData was called with MinRMS=0.00
     00:59:50.72 | Berkeley 11          (trace)   GuideQualityAddData Info | Adding Guide Data: 1.62, Min 0.00, Max 7.97
Although the exception was caught without an esculation / program crash in is best to protect against this and guards have been added to check that RMS (and also MinRMS and MaxRMS) is not zero.  Fixed in AstroMain 3.84.18
  Fixed 2026-10-23 (AstroMain 3.84.18)

• Guide Quality not plotted forShCap Target 22/41  (00:59). During Target 22/41 (Berkeley 11) an "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow" exception occured in GuideQualityChart.AddData()  whilst trying to add Guiding RMS to the Guide Quality Chart. It is probable that the exception occured because the routine was called with RMS=0.00, that resulted in an overflow exception when trying to calculate a Log value in the YToPixel() routine. The target was guided using SBIG Camera instead of the ZWO 178MC camera. instead of the ZWO 178MC camera, but this is not the direct reason. The problem was a RMS value of 0.00 was allowed to be added to 'GuideRmsValues' list in ReportImageGuidingStats () routine, which resulted in GuideRmsValues.Min returning 0.00,.  Fixed in AstroMain 3.84.18 by adding a guard to prevent this:
If .RmsDist <> vcNull And .RmsDist <> 0 Then
      GuideRmsValues.Add(.RmsDist)
  End If
  Fixed 2026-10-23 (AstroMain 3.84.18)

• Session's .htm log files converted from .log text files contains corruptions.  AstroMain runs a conversion programme at end of session using FinaliseLogFiles() routine which converts the session '(run).log file into '(run).htm and a '(run_trace).htm files.  It is noticed that the htm files contain corruptions with missing log message, replaced by blank lines and some timestamps being prefixed by "] ".  Issue identified to be caused by presence of multiple lines in the log file containing "<CR><LF>" character sequence with is used when in logging of raw message lines sent by/received by TCP/IP client, vbCRLF in the raw message is replaced by "<CR><LF>" in order clearly show presence of the hidden CRLF characters for diagnostics.  This character is inappropriately handled by the existing FinaliseLogFiles() routine in AstroMain 3.84.17 and earlier versons. Removing the the character string using a text editor and re-running the conversion routine produced normal, non-corrupted .htm files. Fixed in AstroMain 3.84.18 by adding the following line after reading each line from the '(run).log' file:
    S = S.Replace("", "[CRLF]")
  Fixed 2026-10-23 (AstroMain 3.84.18)

• AstroWeather log shows error/warning messages regarding Weather Icon files.  The AstroWeather logs show an error with the message "C:\Data\Observatory\Weather Icons\Overcast.png not found". These files are used by the routine that creates a Weather Forecast Chart. This non-fatal errors is associated with the temporary relocation of the AstroWeather program to the Observatory Computer whilst the All/Sky/Weather Computer is out of action till replaced at End October.  Fixed on 2026-10-23 by copying the Observatory folder including Weather Icons to the Observatory Computer from the backed up AllSky/Weather Computer files.
Fixed 2026-10-23 (AstroWeather, Observatory Computer, AllSky/Weather Computer)

• AstroWeather log shows exception messages from DrawForecast() routine.  The AstroWeather logs show an exception being caught in DrawForecast for hour 2026-10-24 04:00.with the message "Value of -9 is not valid for 'red'. Red shuld be greater or equal to 0 and less than or equal to 255" at WeatherAPI.vb line 4534.
      myRgbColor = Color.FromArgb(b, b, 255)
  where b is calculated using
      If DPD < 3.0 Then b = 0 + DPD / 4.0 * 255 Else b = 255 End If
Fixed in AstroWeather 1.33.19, by clamping minumum b value to 0.
  Fixed 2026-10-23 (AstroWeather 1.33.19)

• AstroWeather log shows exception messages from DrawForecast() routine.  The AstroWeather logs show an exception in ObsEnv.WriteDataRecord() - Write Record with message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".  Message is written every 5s and it consistance with cadence of ObsEnv records sent from AstroMain's OnsEnvSender. Exception is possibly coming from the following line
         ObsEnvFile.WriteLine(S)
due to the ObsEnvFile not being correctly setup.  Running program in debugger on Development Computer confirms that at the time for tyring to WriteLine(S), ObsEnvFile is Nothing.   Issue is due the OpenObsEnvFile() routine not being called when the ObsEnv Service is started. This is an oversight or accidental code line deletion when refactoring the ObsEnv Service to use TListenerBase class.  Fixed in AstroWeather 1.33.19. ObsEnvFile is now opened by a call to OpenObsEnvFile() from StartObsEnvService() and closed in ObsEnvListener.FinaliseStop()

• AstroWeather log shows file path error .... routine.  The AstroWeather logs show an exception in Graphs.GetData(WeatherStation Data) with the message "Error : could not find a part of the path 'C:\Data\AllSky Imaging\Weather Station\data files\Ws_2026_10.dat" due to missing folder / file. Fix attempted by copying 'Weather Station' folder to the Obervatory Computer from the backed-up AllSky/Weather Computer files. However this may not fix the issue as the file Ws_2026_10.dat has been created since AllSky/Weather Computer has out of action since 2026-09-28.
  Fix attempted 2026-10-23 (AstroWeather 1.33.19)

• Save Graph facility on AstroMain's PageBuilder/Graph tab isn't saving chart for 'M31N 2026-06c?'.  Whilst analysing targets from Session S1463 (2026-10-13), a photometric chart was prepared for extra galactic nova  'M31N 2026-06c?'. Clicking on Save Graph button didn't save/publish the chart as expected. Examining the indicated file name "M31.20260626.M31N_2026-06c?_lightcurve.png"  showed that the "?" character in the file name was likely preventing the graph being saved.  Fixed in AstroMain 3.84.19 by removing the "?" character from the VarStarName value used for constructing the graph file name.
    VarStarName = VarStarName.Replace("?", "")

• AstroWeather's ObsEnv Listener is still not recieving records after service is restarted (2026-10-23). Despite modified ObsEnv Listener in AstroWeather and modified Sender in AstroMain, AstroWeather continues to have issue with the ObsEnv Service after it is restarted. Investigations show that the listener is not tearing down the Connection when the service is stopped. Fixed attempted in AstroWeather 1.33.19 - TearDownConnection(Stream, Client) and Listener.Stop() are calledi n listener's Finally block, but still working. Bug eventually fixed in AstroWeather 1.33.22 (an AcceptTcpClient line has been accidentally duplicated in TListenerBase.MainLoop's connection block).

Continuous Improvement

• Modify program Listeners and Sender to log important changes in state.   During development and testing of revised Senders and revised Listeners code was included to log the raw records being sent and received across TCP/IP connections. Whilst useful during the development and testing these 'trace-like' messages clutter the observing session's log file have been removed from AstroMain.  But important changes in state reflecting  'Lost Connection (warn)'  and later Connection restored and passing data (ok)' do need to be logged. Implemented in AstroMain 3.84.18, AstroWeather 1.33.18.
   Fixed in-session 2026-10-23 (AstroMain 3.84.18, AstroWeather 1.33.18)

• Update AstroWeather AllSkyListener to use the new TCP ListenerBase. As part of the introduction of new AllSky TCP data communication AstroWeather's AllSkyListener now needs to be converted to inherit and use the new TListenerBase class that was recently developed for ObsEnvListener. .
    Done 2026-10-24 (AstroWeather 1.33.19)

• Reduce the frequency at which 16h and 5d Weather Graphs are uploaded to website. Currently in AstroWeather 1.33.22 and earlier version vwsGraph charts are uploaded to the Observatory Website as soon as a new file version becomes available - this is based on each file's last modified date and a minimum Upload Interval of 5s.  For charts with a smaller X axis scale such as the 16h plots and 5d plots, it isn't necessary to update charts so frequently as differences between successive graph are tiny. Whilst the Files can be defined to have longer MinIntervalSecs between uploads when constructing the UploadList in the BuildUploadList()  routine using the AddListItem(fileName, remoteSubfolder, minIntervalSeconds) command , the name format of vwsGraph files (vwsGraphxx.jpg) doesn't directly distinguish between graphs using different graph period, so code changed to use look up file based on two hashsets and then used to define MinIntervalSeconds of 750s for 5d graphs, 100s for 16h graphs and 5s for the remainder. Implemented in AstroWeather 1.33.23.
    Done 2026-10-25 (AstroWeather 1.33.23)

• Add new TCP ListenerBase and SenderBase Classes to AstroAllSky and AstroObsCam. As part of project to tighten up the TCP Sender / Listener communications which began with AstroMain, AstroWeather and AstroGuard programs, similar modifications now need to be made to AstroAllSky and AstroObsCam.  Classes added to AstroAllSky 2026-10-25.
    Done  2026-10-26 (AstroAllSky 3.29)

• Add new TCP ListenerBase and SenderBase Classes to AstroObsCam. As part of project to tighten up the TCP Sender / Listener communications which began with AstroMain, AstroWeather and AstroGuard programs, similar modifications now need to be made to  AstroObsCam.
   To do 2026-10-28 (AstroObsCam 1.14 / 1.14.1)

• Integrate new PingService and ComputerPingStatus into AstroMain.  As part of project to tighten up the TCP Sender and Listener communications there is a need for AstroMain to access the ComputerPingStatus() status, this is set by PingService but this is not yet embedded in AstroMain, (it currently only runs in AstroWeather(). There is opportunity to merge AstroMain's current Pings tests with the new ComputerPingStatus / Ping Service Handling..
   To do 2026-10-28 (AstroMain 3.84.19+)
