Night Summary (Keogram) Plot Pictures Videos Magnetometer Stack Plots (for reference) Planetary K-Index Plot (for reference) Aurora Forecast, NOAA/Ovation (for reference)
- Weak auroral activity just after midnight on the night 2024-08-28 / 2024-08-29
up to KP 2.5, associated with geomagnetic activity up to KP 2.5
This is most likely the final end of the storm that had produced Kp 5.5 / KP 6 (G1/G2) geomagnetic conditions caused by the arrival of a CME / CME Tail on 2024-08-27 / 2024-08-28.
Skies in NE Scotland were cloudy to begin with but cleared to reveal the weak auroral display. Activity was visible from the Clair Observatory (+57N) from 2024-08-28 23:10 to 01:10 UT (00:15 to 02:10 LT). Peak activity was at around 00:00 UT (01:00 LT)
Observed activity comprised weak auroral arc up to 10° altitude and rays up to 15-18°.
- Scandinavia magnetometers indicate some minor activity in magnetometers readings around 23:00 to 01:00 UT, but only recorded geomagnetic activity as far south as rvk (Rorvik, 64.95N). - Telescope Images from night 2024-08-28 >> - Aurora Video & Pictures from previous night 2024-08-27 >>
Night Summary Plot - North Sky (2024-08-28 ) Times on plot are local times (BST = UTC +01h ) Keogram plot affected by cloud Aurora visible on keogram at 00:15 to 02:10 LT (23:15 to 01:10 UT) Strongest aruora (albeit relatively weak) was at around 01:00 LT (00:00 UT) |

Magnetometer Stack Plots from Scandinavia
(ordered by latitude) H Component - 2024-08-28 / 2024-08-29 Minor activity in magnetometers readings at 23:00 to 01:00 UT, but only recorded down to rvk (Rorvik, 64.95N) Original data from Tromsų Geophysical Observatory (TGO), DTU Space (Technical University of Denmark) and Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI, displayed on SpaceWeatherLive http://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/auroral-activity/magnetometers). Note: Geomagnetometer activity at rvk (Rorvik, 64.95N), dob (Dombas, 62.07N), sol (Solund, 61.08N) and kar (Karmoy, 59.21N) stations are used as indicators for potential auroral activity that may be visible from my Observatory situated at latitude 57.32N (Map of Stations) |
