- Auroral activity on the night 2025-03-21 / 2025-03-22 associated with period of geomagnetic activity up to KP6 (G2 Storm)
Skies in NE Scotland were somewhat cloudy.
(ranging from thin cloud to thick cloud at times).
Activity was visible on camera images from around 20:00 to 03:30 UT (specifically at 20:00-20:15, 21:15 - 23:20, 01:30 - 02:15 and 03:00 - 03:30 UT), with peak activity visible at 01:45 to 02:15 UT.
Display was likely partially or totally hidden by cloud at times, and at other times weakened by the effects of thinner cloud or haze.
Observed activity comprised green and violet/crimson auroral glow an occasional arc / band , occasional moving curtains and rays up to 50-60° altitude.
The aurora display was recorded using the Observatory's new Tapo C325WB Colour Night Vision Camera, with images processed in real time by a new AstroColorCam program built for handing the frames captured by iSpy.
Images and video below compare colour images captured by the new Camera, with the black/white images captured using the existing AllSky Camera at approximately the same time.
- Scandinavia magnetometers recorded activity at 19:00-21:00 & 23:30-04:00 UT, with peak activity at around 00:00 and at 01:30 to 03:00 UT. Lerwick Magnetometer shows activity up to K7. - Telescope Images from 2025-03-19 >> -
