Sunset in NE Scotland on 1996-Feb-16 was accompanied by the beautiful, but rare sight, of Narcesent or Mother of Pearl Clouds. These produced beautiful multi-colour light effects in the sky for a period of 1-2 hours in the late afternoon/early evening.
I also observed Narcesent clouds in NE Scotland in the late afternoon of 1999-Nov-30. A series of high clouds in the western sky were seen to display alternating rainbow coloured stripes.
