Session Aims & Highlights (2018-05-08)

Main aims

This was a night-time session were to continue formal commissioning of the new Dome Observatory including :

1. General. Check observatory for any general issues & problems (night time access, lights, safety, equipment start up etc)
2. Dome Slaving. Operate telescope and dome together using POTH.Hub with dome slaving
3. Telescope Park. Confirm telescope start up from Parked Position, align on star & synchronise
4. Observatory Shutdown. Test observatory shutdown including Close Shutter, Park Dome & Park Telescope
5. System Stability. Check stability of the overall system (POTH.Hub and observatory control software)

Equipment & Software

•  12" LX200 and ST-10XME
•  CCDApp2, TheSky6, CCDSoft 5, POTH Hub

Highlights

• General.  No issues or concerns arose during session
  Telescope / Dome.  Scope/Dome started up ok, and later closed down ok.   Dome's Sidereal Speed needs to set to 0.00x for slaving operations to work.
• Telrad. Telrad Alignment confirmed to be good and allows Telescope to be quickly aligned / synchronised on a bright star.
   (this will be less important once Polar Alignment has been completed, but is always needed as a backup should scope be powered-off without parking first)
• Observatory Shutdown. Close Shutter, Park Dome & Park Scope operations ok
• System Stability.  No significant issues during session

Notes

• There were no significant issues during this session, but the session was cut short by rapidly developing cloud.
  
• It was demonstrated that the Sidereal Speed on the Dome Controller must be set to 0.00x when using Dome Slaving, otherwise TheSky6 software doesn't recognise that slews have completed  (POTH.Hub /Telescope API perceives that the dome is still moving and waits (forever) for the dome to come to rest)
