Session Aims & Highlights (2021-01-23)

Main aims

1. Software. Test fixes added in AstroMain 3.35.1
2. Targets. Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets and deep sky targets as allowed by conditions.

Pre-Session Weather Forecast (API data from darksky.net) Pre-Session Weather forecast showed overcast conditions (cloud cover 100%) with possibility of light rain showers in first part of night, giving way to clear stars from 02:00 onwards (cloud cover 25-39%) with very low probability of light showers. Temperatures 5°C falling to 3°C by dawn.. Moderate Wind (13-16 mph) Observatory was set in AutoStart mode, so that session would begin would automatically commence when sky conditions became suitable for observing.   In the event skies were overcast until 01:00 (with rain at 00:45) and then remained clear until dawn except for a passing cloud with spots of rain at 02:55 Temperature of 4°C at 01:00 fell to 1°C by dawn. Winds light to moderate.

• JPG Images not produced for C/2020 M3 (Atlas) , 156P/Russell-LINEAR targets. Problem is that "/" is used in filename which prevents file operations to fail as "/" is interpretated as a folder.  Can be fixed by replacing "/" in filename with a space or underscore.

• AstroGuard's Next Rain field background colour doesn't match that in AstroMain. Field needs to be updated to match recent changes in AstroMain so that background is Orange if probability of rain/snow is only 1-3%

• 'focus star' label overlapping right edge of JPG picture in at least one case. Position offset to be adjusted. Also Guide star label is too low and should be raised.

• Focus JPG pictures are not being created for Near Zenith Focus Field. Unclear why they aren't generated..  Jpg Pictures are created when 'Focus Near Zenith' is run on development computer.
  Resolved S855 (AstroMain 3.35.2) 
   
• When running with AstroPlan in Debugging Mode, using Take Obj (Single Target) in AstroMain, causes exception in AstroPlan's Plan .DrawChart  routine.   Night.Sunset has Date value 0  and subtracting 15 gives impossible date. Workaround implemented which exits the routine if Night.NightDate is Nothing
  Fixed (AstroPlan 1.20.2) 
   
• Duplicate rows sent to database when adding retrospective events for start of Autostart Monitoring (16:58) and start of Autostart (17:38). Log show exception errors (UNIQUE constraint failed) complaining that rows must be unique.  Problem seems to be resticted to just this session, it isn't a problem that's been seen before. Code was reviewed. Whilst the exception message can be explained if a second row tries to be inserted with the same Level/Time, the duplicated events can't be so easily explained.  Considered  to be fixed (review made at 2021-05-25)

• Focus Temp Chart started at different time to other charts. Focus Temp chart started at 16:30 with data starting at ~ 16:56/17:00, whilst other charts started at 17:30.  Autostart commenced at 16:56. Best Focus Chart started at 17:30 but data retrospectively plotted back to 17:00.  Considered  to be fixed (review made at 2021-05-25)

• Need to use TheSky6 object for GCVS HH And, WDS GRB 34 in order to get target circle centered on star.  GCVS HH And set to use Explicit Coords based on star's measured coords at 2021-01-23.   WDS GRB 34 set to use TheSky6 Name  HIP 1475 which has proper motion data.

  JPG Pictures will be created for each SaveType = 2 image  but only updated to website if IV.Exp >= 10. Since there is a throttling to ensure that there is at least 5s between succesive calls to ImageMagicK batch job, the job queue is held back when executing images with <5s exposure.   To prevent unnecessary delay the SaveMainImageToJpg() and SaveMosaicImageToJpg() routines only make calls to ConvertFitsToJpg when IV.Exp >= 5

• Query: Dome didn't move for Target UGC 2528.  Investigating shows that a dome slew was most-likely unnecessary for the the amount of telescope required.  Scope slewed from Az 182.7 / Alt 64.9  to  Az 182.5 / Alt  71.8

• Center Session Events table and Session Alerts table on the Notes Web Page. Table is currently positioned on extreme left side of web page. Consideration given to using <Center> & </Center> tags before & after  the <Table> </Table>tags  but can be better achieved by adding 
  style="  margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"> to <Table> tag. Change made in AstroPlan SessionEvents.SaveHtmReport routine to effect this change from this point onwards. Special handling required to ensure that the style is only used for user-initiated tables (Auto generated tables for Live Session don't require this centering as they an acceptable  left margin is applied by the parent div). Retrospective changes will need to be made by editing WebPage html.

• Send TargetDisplayNameLite to Scope Name/Next Targets (TelePosition) so that w/SN, w/AT etc can be seen on annotated AllSky images.   Code modified in AstroMain 3.35.2 in an attempt to effect this change. Should work ok when running Job Queue. Manual operation (that depend on szTargetName, will show standard name (without the /SN, w/AT extension) .  Change should carry through to name displayed in ObsViewer. There may be some unwanted sideeffects or occasions where standard names is used in unexpected places.

• Count stars in Guide Reference image to indicate any issue (cloud/occluded view).  Aim is to prevent guiding issue where view of DY Per through guidescope was occluded by roof in last session (S853).   Underlying issue that was driving this ticket item was resolved in AstroPlan 1.29.15 (2022-04-24) by not allowing targets to be entered into the observing plan at times were the target altitude is > 84°.
