Main aims

1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by sky conditions.
2. ShCap Imaging/Processing.   Continue testing of AstroMain/AstroShCap routines and workflow including Siril scripts

• 178MC image of Berkeley 50 had a distinct green cast (04:28). 178MC camera images of ShCap Target 29/31 (Berkeley 50) has a distinct green cast to the realtime picture files and the base result. Individual frames had background values of
     502(R), 769(G), 500(B) giving a green excess of  268,  
  whilst the stacked image had background values of
     139(R), 388(G), 147(B) giving a green excess of 245.
  AstroMain 3.80.26 was deliberately modified to force SharpCap into using a Camera White Balance of 70 (R) and 90 (B), as Camera's white balance was always being reset to 50/50 when using PHD2, and their was a perception that this was killing the colours in image/picture products created in Siril. This behaviour which resets WB to 50/50 was determined to have began in Mid Jul 2025 for some unknown reason. It was hoped that changing WB to 70/90 would improve images.  However it is evident that 70/90 causes and excess of green.  Tests need to be performed to get a WB value that gives the right amount of green, to give a neutral background. This is subject of a separate Continuous Improvement Ticket. In the meantime AstroMain is modified to use a WB of 55 / 60.  Analysis of data collected on Berkeley 71 during S1405 session showed background values for two stacked files taken of same starfield in consecutive order an stacked in identical way)
    50/50 : 292(R), 232(G), 289(B)
  70/90 : 337(R), 899(G), 355(B)
  From this it can be determined that the ballpark white balance need for achieving a neutral background (with neither deficiency or excess in green) is   52(R), 54(B). 
  We interpolated along the straight line between your two tested points:
  Point A: 50/50 → ΔG ≈ −58.5
  Point B: 70/90 → ΔG ≈ + 553
We solved for the fraction t between them where ΔG ≈ 0.
That gave:
  t = 0.0957 (approx)
Then we applied that same t to both sliders:
  Red:   R neutal  =50+t*(70-50) ≈ 50 + 0.0957 * 20 ≈  51.9
  Blue:  B neutral =50+t*(90-50) ≈ 50 + 0.0957 * 40 ≈ 53.8
  AstroMain 3.80.27 modified to set these values (WB_R 52, WB_B 54) whenever the Camera is connected in SharpCap, pending any subsequent values from explicit tests.

Small Defects

• CcdCamera's Set AutoSavePrefix consistently times out after starting CCD Camera in PHD2 (04:27). When acquiring ShCap Targets, the CCDCamera is released by AstroMain and given to PHD2. Shortly after the PHD2 Guide Monitor starts the log file always show a couple of records  where 'Set AutoSavePrefix' times out after 2s.  Issue has been seen in other recent sessions. During the S1406 session these pair of timeouts occurred during Target 29/31 (Berkelety 50) at 04:27:43 / 04:27:45.  Since the camera is likely already disconnected from CCDSoft it is could be expected that Set AutoSavePrefix can not be performed. Call to CcdCamera should not have occurred or message should be surpressed. To investigate  It was absolutely clear where the operations to Set AutoSavePrefix were being called from, but there are two potential candidate points in OB.ExecuteTarget() routine. Fix attempted in AstroMain 3.80.27 but putting a guard around the calls requiring the gCameraConnected=True. Extra log messages need to be written in order to develop a precise timescale.

Continuous Improvement

• White Balance for ASI178MC Camera as defined in SharpCap is being reset when PHD2 connects to the camera.  Up until Mid July 2025 SharpCap used as White Balance of 70 (R) and 90 (B), and genreated good colour image resuls, but from that point onwards SharpCap has being using a White Balance of 50 (R), 50 (B) and in last few sessions it is evident  that SharpCap images are produced pictures which are lacking in good colour.  Daytime tests shows that after setting White Balance to 70 (R), 90 (B) in SharapCap, a swap of camera to/from PHD2 causes the White Balance to be overwritten and change to 50 (R), 50 (B). A fix has been made so that each time AstroMain assigns the Camera to SharpCap the WhiteBlance values in SharpCap ae set to 70 (R), 90 (B) using a new ShCap method 'SetWhiteBalance' with parameters WhiteBalR and WhiteBalB. Fixed in AstroMain 3.80.26 and AstroShCap 1.3.19.  Further data (Berkeley 50 in S1406 session) showed that White Bal 70/90 produced images with a dominant green color, so 70/90 is likely not optimal (70/90 produced too much green, 50/50 doesn't produced enough green)

• Modify Create Dome/Create Scope Logs to run on Observatory Computer as part of Finishing Session. AstroMain was recently extended to be able to create simplified short logs of Dome and Scope activities for a session based on the detailed/large Pulsar Observatory and MeadeGeneric ASCOM logs. Currently in AstroMain 3.20.26 these are initiated from buttons on Reduction Workflow Tab and are designed to read Observatory Computer files from the Development/Analysis Computer.  It is proposed to modify the scripts to be able to be run on the Observatory Computer and read local ASCOM logs and also to be called as part of Finishing Session activities avoiding the requirment for the user to run them from buttons. Implemented in AstroMain 3.80.28.

• Add facility to import a png picture file from ShCap/Siril WorkFolder to Targets Store Folder and ImageBuilder. AThe workflow for being able to incorporate png images from SharpCap/Siril environment through Image Builder and onto Page Builder are still being developed / improved.  Currently after a png image has been created in SharpCap Session/Target Folder it has to be manually copied into the target's store folder and the name of the file copied into the base name field on AstroMai's ImageSet/Image tab.  It would save a lot of effort if these steps could be automated.  Implemented via new buttons (like ">> 50pc.png") placed on the  ShCap Tab in AstroMain 3.80.28

• Add facility to save /rename png files in Siril Workfolder with final image names.  Currently the Siril scripts used  for stacking frames and creating png image files, outputs png files with the names 'result.50pc.png', 'result.asinh.50pc.png' and 'result.asinh.50pc.crop.png'. The runtime routine TakeSecondaryScopeFrames() then renames these files like "Berkeley 69.20260309.Set2.g75.30x10s.color.50pc.png" etc.   However when the scripts are later used within the Siril UI environment for post session refinement, there is currently no process to republish the final images with the final full names (like Berkeley 69.20260309.Set2.g75.30x10s.color.50pc).  To do this the user has to manually rename the files. This is tiresome. Propose to add some facility to make this easier.  This has been implemented though precise date and version are unclear. Approximately date/version given below.
