Aurora Notes
Pictures Videos Summary Plot Magnetometer Stack Plots (for reference) Planetary K-Index Plot (for reference) Aurora Forecast, NOAA/Ovation (for reference)
- Aurora display partly visible from NE Scotland in early hours of 2022-02-10 that was associated with a coronal mass ejection (CME) that hit the Earth's magnetic field 2022-02-09 @ 2100 UT. The impact didn't spark a more significant geomagnetic storm until 24 hours later.
- Activity visible after midnight between 00:35 and 01:30 UT (2022-02-10)
- Aurora arc till around 6 deg altitude only, faint rays to 10 deg.
- Display affected by bright moonlight sky- Further activity the following night but hidden in part by cloud / snow cover on camera.

Panoramic View - Northern Sky |
2022-02-10 00:51 UT Weak auroral arc developing to 4 deg altitude. Moon in western sky illuminating clouds in NW & N sky |
2022-02-10 01:05 UT Auroral arc with faint rays visible to 8 deg altitude. Bright moonlit sky, with some broken cloud hanging above northern horizon. |
2022-02-10 01:08 UT Aurora arc with faint curtains & rays visible to 8 deg altitude in N-NNW Sky. Bright moonlit sky. |
2022-02-10 01:15 UT Auroral activity weakening, auroral arc fading and reducing in altitude. Rays moving near NNW horizon |
2022-02-10 01:24 UT Aurora arc no longer visible but rays still evident in NNW sky to 6 deg altitude, just visible desite bright moonlit sky and light pollution from nearby town |
2022-02-10 01:35 UT Auroral activity finished (last signs of activity at around 01:35, but hard to be precise because of bright moon lit sky. Light in NW to NNW sky is from a nearby town. |

Magnetometer Stack Plots from Scandinavia
(ordered by latitude) H Component - 2022-02-09 / 2022-02-10 Original data from Tromsų Geophysical Observatory (TGO), DTU Space (Technical University of Denmark) and Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI, displayed on SpaceWeatherLive http://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/auroral-activity/magnetometers). Note: Geomagnetometer activity at rvk (Rorvik, 64.95N), dob (Dombas, 62.07N), sol (Solund, 61.08N) and kar (Karmoy, 59.21N) stations are used as indicators for potential auroral activity that may be visible from my Observatory situated at latitude 57.32N (Map of Stations) |
