Aurora Notes
Pictures Videos Summary Plot Magnetometer Stack Plots (for reference) Planetary K-Index Plot (for reference) Aurora Forecast, NOAA/Ovation (for reference)
- Weak aurora activity visible from NE Scotland on morning of 2022-03-31. View partially spoilt by some cloud along the northern horizon and developing twilight/dawn.
- Scandinavia magnetometers indicate significant activity from 22:20 to 23:30 UT (2022-03-30), with weaker activity at 02:20 to 05:00 UT (2022-03-31).
- No activity was visible from my observatory site in evening of 2022-03-30 (time of main activity in Scandinavia). Sky was partially hidden by cloud, but activity didn't seen to have been present based on the occassional gaps in cloud.
- Activity was seen later on during the morning of 2022-03-31 from 02:45 to 04:10 UT (03:45 to 05:10 Local Time). Aurora arc to 5 deg altitude with rays to 15 deg altitude at peak.

2022-03-30 23:05 UT (2022-03-31 00:05 Local) Time of peak activity according to Norwegian Magnetometers, but activity either not visible from NE Scotland and/or hidden by cloud |
2022-03-31 02:54 UT (03:54 Local) Auroral rays along N-NW horizon. Activity moving, best seen in video. |
2022-03-31 03:18 UT (04:18 Local) Auroral arc in NNW sky to 4-5 deg altitude. Rays to 10 deg altitude. |
2022-03-31 03:42 UT (04:42 Local) Auroral arc brightening in NW-NNW sky. Cloud along N horizon. Rays in NNE sky to 10 deg altitude |
2022-03-31 03:44 UT (04:44 Local) Auroral arc brightening in NW-NNW sky, faint rays to10-15 deg rays. bright rays in NNE sky to 10 deg altitude |
2022-03-31 04:00 UT (05:00 Local) Auroral arc fading but auroral ray to 15 deg altitude in NW-NNW Sky, again part hidden by cloud in N sky |
2022-03-31 04:03 UT (05:03 Local) Rays in NW-NNW sky, cloud in N sky, dawn developing in NE-E sky |

Magnetometer Stack Plots from Scandinavia
(ordered by latitude) H Component - 2022-03-30 / 2022-03-31 Original data from Tromsų Geophysical Observatory (TGO), DTU Space (Technical University of Denmark) and Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI, displayed on SpaceWeatherLive http://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/auroral-activity/magnetometers). Note: Geomagnetometer activity at rvk (Rorvik, 64.95N), dob (Dombas, 62.07N), sol (Solund, 61.08N) and kar (Karmoy, 59.21N) stations are used as indicators for potential auroral activity that may be visible from my Observatory situated at latitude 57.32N (Map of Stations) |
