NGC 2237 (Monoceros) with NGC 2244 open cluster Located an estimated 1,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Monoceros, the Rosette Nebula is a spectacular region of ionized hydrogen excavated by the strong stellar winds from hot O- and B-type stars in the center of the young open cluster NGC 2244. It is a region of on-going star formation with an age of about three million years. |

Barnard 33 , Horsehead Nebula (Orion) B33 embedded in IC 434 |
CCD Image (50% size, linear scale) taken through OptoLong L-eNhance dual-band filter (Ha, Hb/Oiii) 5 x 120s exposure (average combine), 3x3 binning, DB Filter 2019-12-24 01:26 UT (#732012-16) 12" LX200R (at f/10.4) + ST-10XME Auto-guided using TS 80mm APO, ZWO ASI178MC & PHD2 |
Barnard 33 Detail Vertical banding to the left of Horsehead nebula could be an artifact related to the stray light from Alnitak (see image above) and the properties of the L-eNhance filter However wide field images of IC 434 show streaks in the nebulosity that extend above the Horsehead that are likely due to magnetic fields within the nebula. (see https://www.noao.edu/image_gallery/html/im0661.html ) |
