Objects Session Notes
184P/Lovas - Comet (attempted observation) C/2019 K7 (Smith) - Comet LP 759-36 - High Proper Motion Star Variable Stars (photometric monitoring) - Z And, CI Cyg, BL Lac
- U And Attempt (failed due to cloud)Nearby Stars (astrometric monitoring) - None
- Teegardens Star attempt (failed due to cloud)
- Evening session (3.2 hour) cut short by developing clouds / overcast conditions - Main aims of the session were the testing of new routines & bug fixes and acquisition of a selection of deep sky targets, together with some variable star, nearby star and comet targets (if conditions allowed) - 12" LX200 + ST-10XME for imaging - TS 80mm APO + ZWO ASI178MC for guiding & imaging - Ambient Temperature: 3°C (min) - CCD Temperature: -20°C - Notes from 2020-10-30 >> -
184P/Lovas (passing through Aquarius) Sun Distance 1.70 AU Earth Distance 1.06 AU (159.0 million km) Atttempted observation of comet 184P/Lovas but after checking the image against a DSS2 reference image using Aladdin, it was determined that no indication of the comet was visible at the expected location (circled) and expected magntiude (+15.9) |
Image Detail Comet's expected position indicated by white circle in image below. Whilst attempting to identify the comet and rule out candidate objects in the vicinity it was noticed that one star was at a slightly different position compared to its position in the DSS2 reference image. The star was determined to be LP 739-36, a high proper motion star |

LP 759-36 (Aquarius) Whilst attempting (unsuccessfully) to identify comet 184P/Lovas in the image below using Aladdin it was noticed that one star was at a slightly different position compared to its position in the DSS2 reference image. The star was determined to be LP 739-36, a high proper motion star with proper motion of -257.508 -309.233 mas/yr |
