Session Aims & Highlights (2024-10-21)

Main aims

1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by sky conditions.
2. AstroMain.  Continue to check new 3.71.8 version of AstroMain following introduction of ResolveScopePortIssue handling which includes noteworthy changes to ObsManager MainLoop code for progressing Auostart, Starting, Suspended and Closing States
3. CCDCamera.  Monitor operation of CCDSoft / SBIG Camera, & CCD Camera following issues in two recent sessions (S1254-55) but not in last session (S1256)
4. C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS). Acquire images of comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS)

Highlights

• Targets. 14/17  planned targets observations were completed. Other targets failed due to cloud or replacement by a ToO  (NGC 410, Ast.Now Deep Sky Challenge Object for Nov 2024)
•  C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS). Images of comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) couldn't be acquired due to cloud
• AstroMain.  The new AstroMain version 3.71.8 continued to work as per design with no problems
• CCDCamera.  No problems/issues with CCDCamera / SBIG Camera
• Dome. No issues opening/closing shutter during session. Dome closed and parked ok at end of session.

• AstroAllSky seems to have stopped working just after starting Daytime Mode (2023-10-23 08:00). AllSky Images noted to be note updating during evening, last image was final image (07:20) from the previous night. AllSky/Weather computer responds to Pings and Windows Explorer connection, but no weather charts are being uploaded to observatory website, and no VNC Remote Connection is possible.  Observatory was visited in order to check the status of the AllSky/Weather Computer. This showed that the computer screen was black and the computer was unresponsive to mouse actions.  Computer was rebooted using its Off/On buttton, and AllSky/Weather programs restarted.   Unclear why the computer behaved as it did but the problem doesn't seem to due to AstroAllSky.
