Session Aims & Highlights (2025-01-10)

Main aims

1. Targets.  Acquire images of a selection of variable stars, nearby stars, comets & deep sky targets as allowed by sky conditions.
2. MeadeGeneric. Test out new 1.3.12 release version of the MeadeGeneric Telescope Driver

Highlights

• Targets. 46/47 planned targets observations were completed with 1 target partially completed.  
•   MeadeGeneric. New 1.3.12 version of MeadeGeneric Telescope Driver performed fine for entire session with no problems. Telescope connection was successfull made on 1st attempt using 6000ms serial timeout (thus resolving a long standing issue).
•   Dome. There was no issues opening/closing the shutter during session. Dome closed and parked at end of session Ok

• Target Circle for T CrB is not precisely positioned on the JPG Picture. Blue target circle for T CrB isn't positioned on target object on JPG (main frames) pictures (see Fig 1). Target Circle is positioned ok on Locate Frame 1 and 2, but is positioned on the Focus Frame picture and subsequent Main Frame pictures (Target ID 3300, frames starting from #1292282). The problem isn't shown by other recent observations of T CrB.   The same problem was seen by U Mon target in the following session (S1293).  Problem is due to a slight shift in telescope pointing since the final locate frame was taken and a failure to match stars and determine the necessary image shift for correcting the target X/Y position.  Investigating shows a bug in Store BrightestStars for Locate Frame 2 (1292283),  the brightest star is not listed in the table of BrightestStars dumped to log file. and the 6th object seems to be a duplicate of the 5th object (both have the same X,Y & RawMag). Fixed in AstroMain 3.73.11 by ensuring the the 0th inventory star (brightest star) is included in the generated array of BrightestStars in Locate Frame (see Fig 2).
